It's the 2019 Millinocket Marathon and Half weekend recap! Peter and Bryan grab their window spot at the Moose Drop In to watch the runners come in and chat about their own race experience. They share highlights from their super fun group adventure up the Golden Road (Fireball whiskey shots! Soup! Fireball-soaked cherries! Chocolate and bananas! More Fireball!) and from the record-setting 4th Annual Crankle 2K the night before. They also chat with fellow runners who share some amazing stories about how they found their way to Millinocket, including one pretty big decision about what they're doing after. Finally, a chat with Moose Drop In owner and honorary Mayor of Millinocket Tricia Cyr, who is excited for this visit from the New England Emmy Award (and also from the HWYRT crew).

Look for Episode 181 to drop this coming weekend!
It's the pre-Thanksgiving episode to entertain you on your way to wherever you're traveling! Peter attends a toy show and Bryan enjoys nature's beauty. Then they are joined by Sean Quinn, a self-described stoic athlete who just completed his first official race, the Rock 'n' Rock Marathon Series 10K. Sean describes how high school and college sports led him to hate running and what got him on the two-year journey to his first starting line (hint: he may have recently married an amazing runner and sports psychology coach we all know and love). Plus, updates on the 4th Annual Crankle 2K in Millinocket, Maine, which is just over a week away! Cover photo by Bojan Mandaric.

It's been a busy week! Peter reenters the world of double-digit runs and Bryan tackles NP Boston's intense #WOahMAN triathlon. They return once again to the WGBH Studios at the Boston Public Library to welcome two super-fast and amazing runners: Amanda Nurse, who is gearing up for the 2020 Olympic Trials (!), and Fast, Funny Ellen London, who is training for the 2020 Boston Marathon with a special coach (hint: it's Amanda). Amanda and Ellen go into all things running, particularly how it has changed for them as new mothers. They talk about their different experiences with running during pregnancy and all things postpartum, including the safe way to resume running (Ellen may be too fast), fueling while running and nursing, pumping before a race, and having a secret weapon when it comes to resistance running.

Bryan and Peter return to the Boston Public Library, where they welcome the force behind the Millinocket Marathon and Half social media accounts, Pattie Himes McNally.
Pattie (a Millinocket native!) talks about her years growing up playing ice hockey, how she took on the Millinocket Marathon social media, and her day job supporting car accident investigations. Peter and Bryan take away a few lessons: always wear a helmet and a seatbelt and...your car knows more that you think! The guys also invite several fan-favorite and new HWYRTians who stopped by the library to join them on the mics and tell their running story.

The past weekend was full of crazy races and we’re talking about them all! Bryan and Peter update one another on where they are in their training cycles. Peter reveals the major game-changer that is taking place along his favorite running route. Bryan lets the cat out of the bag on some major prizes being offered at this year’s Crankle 2K up in Millinocket. Oh, and HWYRT may have saved a listener’s life!

Bryan’s race day snafu and a listener’s injury lead to a debate: is it better to DNS or DNF? Then, Peter and Bryan are joined by Anne Beatty, a 20-time marathoner who didn’t start running marathons until she was 50. Anne talks about how she got into running and how she maintains a tech-free running routine. (Hint: It helps to have a great running group.) Finally, friend-of-the-show Igor Babushkin stops by to give an update on his training…and it may not be the real Igor.
For more information about Anne’s running club, please visit their Web site: http://www.parkwayrunningclub.org
Bryan's back from river rafting in Utah and singing the praises of taking breaks from running. Peter is holding steady on his training. Plus, HWYRT "goes to the phones" in a brand new segment. They take a call from listener Jeannette who is asking her fellow HWYRTians to help her soar past the $500 fundraising goal for the 20th Annual Flutie 5K next week! She is running on behalf of her son, Robbie. Please visit her page here: https://www.classy.org/team/237285
In this episode we get an update on Peter's successful return to running in the month of August. Then Peter tries to pull Bryan out of the deep doldrums, but faces resistance. Silliness ensues with an “unknown guest” and remembering the time they moved a free treadmill for the Social Media Guru.
We’re back to one show per week. Well, at least for this week. Peter dodges construction as he plods through a humid run, while Bryan joins a friend in an intense stadium challenge. They share an announcement about the fourth running of the Crankle 2K! in Millinocket, Maine, and offer kudos to friends of the show on some MAJOR mileage races. Plus, Bryan asks for advice!
Friday is finally here and we are so happy you spent the week with us. Now, get outside and have a good run today!
Correction: The first appearance of Punisher was in issue 129 of Amazing Spider-Man way back in 1974.

In the afterglow of their Boston/New England Emmy win, Bryan and Peter revisit the events of the big day. First, Peter talks about his recovery from knee surgery (just the day before the Emmys!) Then, we travel to the Boston Public Library where the HWYRT team screened “Run Millinocket” with a few of their biggest fans. Peter and Bryan also chat with Coach Paul Davies about his recovery from an injury (that was much worse than he thought...) Then, Riley Gage and Dan Adamietz revisit their ultra experience at the Pineland Farms Trail Challenge. The episode wraps up with some sincere Thank Yous to the many people in the HWYRT family and community that make “this little hear show” possible. It's an ULTRA episode this week! We get to experience the Pineland Farms Trail Challenge with Bryan as he describes his first ultra race and shares the audio diaries of fellow NP Boston ultra runners Natasha Walth, Riley Gage, and Dan Adamietz. We hear about all the highlights and the challenges they faced, including how the race became a Choose Your Own Adventure experience... Plus, Peter's on the injury deck again, but positive thinking abounds! www.hwyrt.com
Bryan and Peter sit down for a long chat with returning guest Emily Saul (Co-Leader at November Project Boston and founder of E Saul Movement). Peter confesses that the past six months have been less than awesome, and Emily offers some wise advice about how to approach moving forward. Plus, Bryan is preparing for his first Ultra Marathon!

We welcome legendary race director Dave McGillivray, who tells us all about how he "conducts" the Boston Marathon. Dave also takes us back in time to describe about how the Boston Marathon has changed over the years, how he organized a marathon at Fenway Park, what inspired him to run across the country as a young man, and how he helped to pioneer the concept of running to fundraise for a cause. Dave also shares how a recent health scare made him rethink certain lifestyle habits and what led him to have serious surgery. He also shares his wisdom on tackling injuries and looking for their underlying cause. Plus, his strong 'stache game!

And you can find more about Bryan and Peter over here:
Peter is on the road to wellness, and he has a crazy new idea to share (of course). Then, we welcome longtime friend-of-the-show and visually impaired runner, Tim Sullivan, who will be running the Boston Marathon with Bryan as his guide! Tim talks about his experience running last year's very cold and wet marathon, and the support that he and other runners get from MABVI (Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired) that allows them to have such a rich marathon experience. We then dig into Bryan's concerns as a first-time guide. Finally, Tim talks about his (controversial?) favorite part of the Boston Marathon course and what it's like to be guided by a faster runner. Plus, Tim finally gets the question he's been longing to hear, followed by a new HWYRT musical masterpiece!
