Bryan and Peter practice responsible social distancing as they check in about their runs from the confines of their individual residences. They talk about the challenge of keeping your mental game on during stressful times and about the benefits of running. They also go to the movies...from the comfort of their own couches. Plus, a strap-on-the-feedback confession.

Peter and Bryan go on a guided running tour of Boston with City Running Tours and learn a whole lot they didn't know about their hometown. Then they chat with Dr. Ithamar Jotkowitz of Outback Physical Therapy about the Australian approach to PT and learn more about the science of Resting Metabolic Rate and VO2 Max testing. They discuss what Bryan has adjusted in his training since his VO2 Max testing a year ago, and Dr. Jotkowitz shares the non-so-secret science of better running (hint: go slow and eat more!). Plus, the eternal question: Can a doctor follow his own advice when training for a marathon?

Note: This episode mentions several charity events shared by HWYRTians who are raising money for the Boston Marathon. These events will likely be canceled by the time of this podcast airing. Please consider supporting the charities anyway if you can!

Peter and Bryan welcome ultrarunner and ultrawinner Lori Michener to the WGBH Studio at the Boston Public Library. Lori talks about running her first 100-mile race (the Florida Keys 100), how she ended up running THREE 100-mile races last year, and what she's doing to train for her next challenge—the Badwater 135. She also describes how she managed to impress her 16-year-old son, the charity she has supported for (about to be) 10 Boston Marathons, and what it takes to do so much training while also working as a college professor and parenting. (Hint: It involves a Paul.) Then, it's time for questions from the live audience about everything from running rituals and superstitions to how to properly fold socks. #MarieKondoisright

This episode is ready for a long run! First, Peter and Bryan go back to the movies on a call with View From My Run's Lori Richmond. Lori drops some deep NYC knowledge about the filming of Brittney Runs a Marathon, then shares some of her favorite running-movie recommendations. Then, Bryan and Peter are joined at the Boston Public Library by Mark Lowenstein of Great Runs. Mark gives an update on his activity streak (2,000+ days and going strong!) then talks about the site's exciting new categories of running routes that can be found all around the world, including "unique" runs. Plus, Mark shares a major announcement that is sure to be interesting to the competitive types.

Bryan and Peter try to stay inspired as they stare into the abyss of the hardest months of winter. First, they replay the time that they interviewed Jared Ward, recently named #1 in U.S. Men's Marathon for 2019, and gave him advice before his first Boston Marathon. (He came in 10th, so it must have helped!) Then, it's time to strap on the feedback as they discuss Peter's progress on a mostly plant-based diet and the importance of continuing to learn about how to fuel our bodies for running. Next, Peter and Bryan go to the movies! They share their thoughts on the indie film Brittany Runs a Marathon and the documentary Desert Runners. (Beware: Mild spoilers.) It brings them to think about what drives each them as runners, from the accomplishment of the training cycle to always doing something new. Finally, a check-in on their upcoming races.

It's the 2019 Millinocket Marathon and Half weekend recap! Peter and Bryan grab their window spot at the Moose Drop In to watch the runners come in and chat about their own race experience. They share highlights from their super fun group adventure up the Golden Road (Fireball whiskey shots! Soup! Fireball-soaked cherries! Chocolate and bananas! More Fireball!) and from the record-setting 4th Annual Crankle 2K the night before. They also chat with fellow runners who share some amazing stories about how they found their way to Millinocket, including one pretty big decision about what they're doing after. Then they are joined by Sean Quinn, a self-described stoic athlete who just completed his first official race, the Rock 'n' Rock Marathon Series 10K. Sean describes how high school and college sports led him to hate running and what got him on the two-year journey to his first starting line (hint: he may have recently married an amazing runner and sports psychology coach we all know and love). Plus, updates on the 4th Annual Crankle 2K in Millinocket, Maine, which is just over a week away!  Cover photo by Bojan Mandaric.

It's been a busy week! Peter reenters the world of double-digit runs and Bryan tackles NP Boston's intense #WOahMAN triathlon. They return once again to the WGBH Studios at the Boston Public Library to welcome two super-fast and amazing runners: Amanda Nurse, who is gearing up for the 2020 Olympic Trials (!), and Fast, Funny Ellen London, who is training for the 2020 Boston Marathon with a special coach (hint: it's Amanda). Amanda and Ellen go into all things running, particularly how it has changed for them as new mothers. They talk about their different experiences with running during pregnancy and all things postpartum, including the safe way to resume running (Ellen may be too fast), fueling while running and nursing, pumping before a race, and having a secret weapon when it comes to resistance running.

Bryan and Peter return to the Boston Public Library, where they welcome the force behind the Millinocket Marathon and Half social media accounts, Pattie Himes McNally.

Pattie (a Millinocket native!) talks about her years growing up playing ice hockey, how she took on the Millinocket Marathon social media, and her day job supporting car accident investigations. Peter and Bryan take away a few lessons: always wear a helmet and a seatbelt and...your car knows more that you think! The guys also invite several fan-favorite and new HWYRTians who stopped by the library to join them on the mics and tell their running story.

Bryan’s race day snafu and a listener’s injury lead to a debate: is it better to DNS or DNF? Then, Peter and Bryan are joined by Anne Beatty, a 20-time marathoner who didn’t start running marathons until she was 50. Anne talks about how she got into running and how she maintains a tech-free running routine. (Hint: It helps to have a great running group.) Finally, friend-of-the-show Igor Babushkin stops by to give an update on his training…and it may not be the real Igor.

In the afterglow of their Boston/New England Emmy win, Bryan and Peter revisit the events of the big day. First, Peter talks about his recovery from knee surgery (just the day before the Emmys!) Then, we travel to the Boston Public Library where the HWYRT team screened “Run Millinocket” with a few of their biggest fans. Peter and Bryan also chat with Coach Paul Davies about his recovery from an injury (that was much worse than he thought...) Then, Riley Gage and Dan Adamietz revisit their ultra experience at the Pineland Farms Trail Challenge. The episode wraps up with some sincere Thank Yous to the many people in the HWYRT family and community that make “this little hear show” possible.
